The number of new passenger cars registered in Slovakia beat expectations in October when 6,599 cars in this category were registered. Month-on-month, this was an increase of 29.8 percent.

Registrations in October rose also compared with other months of this year when registrations failed to reach 6,000 cars in any month, according to the data published by the Association of the Automotive Industry (ZAP) on November 12.

“It is the best result for October since 2008 – which was in fact the last pre-crisis year,” Ján Pribula of ZAP told the SITA newswire. “The month October, including this year’s, is specific from several viewpoints. Slovak customers were as if waiting each year what importers will introduce at the Autosalon Nitra car show. At the same time, it is highly probable that many customers’ cars were ordered closely before the summer holiday and then production breaks started to occur at the turn of September and October, which is reflected in increased registrations." Škoda still has the highest market share among brands with 24.4 percent, followed by Volkswagen with 9.5 percent and Kia with 6.2 percent.
