THE BRATISLAVA Transport Company (DPB) will lengthen its line No. 901, which currently serves the Austrian community of Wolfsthal, to the town of Hainburg, following through on its original plans.
“We already have a licence to drive regularly to Hainburg and I expect that we will actually start it on March 21,” the chairman of the board of directors of DPB, Branislav Zahradník, told the TASR newswire.
Right now, there is just one bus driving the shortened line from Bratislava’s New Bridge to Wolfsthal and DPB will use it for the continuation to Hainburg where there is a terminal station near the shopping centres.
The city of Bratislava had originally planned to operate a bus line from Bratislava to Wolfsthal as early as December 21, 2007 when Slovakia entered the Schengen zone. It actually launched the line to the border village on May 24, 2008. The DPB was ready to start earlier but it waited for more than six months for the Austrian licence to go to Wolfsthal and the procedures for the Hainburg licence took even longer.
According to Zahradník, the approval of the route to Hainburg is of greater importance for passengers than the current short section just to Wolfsthal.
