Four regular flights per week will connect the eastern Slovak town of Poprad with London following a re-launch of the service on October 26.
“The resumption of regular flights to London means new opportunities for our passengers not only as far as London goes, but it also creates more opportunities for connections to more destinations,” Poprad-Tatry airport chief Ivana Herkelová said, as quoted by the TASR newswire. She said that the new flights to London’s Luton airport hold extraordinary importance for local tourism, jobs and sports and cultural events.
October 28 saw the second flight on the route following the resumption of the service two days earlier.
Poprad’s airport has signed a contract with discount air carrier Wizzair for five years, while at least the first year is guaranteed regardless of profits. “It’s hard to estimate the number of travellers per year, but as long as it goes as it did on Sunday and Tuesday then we’ll be satisfied, as the planes were nearly full,” said Herkelová.
The Airbus 320 aircraft can carry 180 passengers. The flights will be operated on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
