THE TELECOMMUNICATIONS authority, the TÚ, stated that there is no effective competition on the fixed-line market for international calls in Slovakia. In its analysis the authority said that the dominant operator Slovak Telecom (ST) has a significant influence in this segment, the SITA news agency wrote.
The TÚ therefore recommended ST fulfil several duties. However, the preliminary findings of its analysis as well as the proposed duties are still subject to approval by the European Commission.
Only then can the TÚ launch administrative proceedings against ST regarding its duties.
The TÚ also stated that the ST's economic influence enables it to behave independently of competitors and users to a great extent. For this reason the office suggests that ST be prohibited to charge inappropriately high prices for international calls.
In addition it should be ordered to refrain from obstructing entry of other companies on the market or ask for inappropriately low prices with the aim of discriminating against the competition.
