BUSINESSMAN Ladislav Rehák informed the management of mobile-phone operator Orange Slovensko on November 22 that he has decided to step down as chairman of the Orange board of directors on a temporary basis in light of the current police investigation directed against him.
According to Rehák's decision, he will not take part in meetings of the Orange board, nor will he participate in the company's decision-making processes.
The decision will take immediate effect and will remain in place until further notice.
"I made this serious decision because I don't want the cases linked to my name to harm Orange," he said. "Orange Slovensko is the most important company on the Slovak mobile-phone market and I feel as strongly about its good name as I do about my own," he added.
On November 15 police charged Rehák, his son Martin and prominent Bratislava lawyer Ernest Valko with extortion. It was the second extortion charge recorded against Ladislav and Martin Rehák within a week.
