BÉLA Bugár, Gábor Gál and László Nagy have failed to reach an agreement with the Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) leadership, the SITA newswire reported.
The three deputies, who quit the SMK caucus in April, demanded that the current party leadership allow them to set up a separate faction within the party in an attempt to preserve its overall unity.
“Following our negotiations with the SMK leadership on Monday [May 25] and subsequent statements by SMK leader Pál Csáky to the media the day after, we decided that we would not continue with talks,” Bugár said, as quoted by the SITA newswire.
Bugár declined to say whether this meant that they would quit the SMK, adding they would not deal with the question of whether to leave the party completely until after elections to the European Parliament on June 6.
Bugár expressed serious concerns on behalf of the group of three MPs that the SMK chairman is telling lies. He accused Csáky of telling journalists one thing, while in negotiations telling the dissident MPs another.
As a result, he said, he does not consider the SMK leader a serious partner and he cannot take his attempts to reach an agreement seriously, SITA wrote.
