A 42-YEAR-OLD man from Žilina faces robbery and assault charges after attacking another person for €1.
The defendant, who has a criminal past including 19 sentences for property theft and violent crime, approached a 24-year-old man on the street in Považská Bystrica in late June and asked for a single euro.
“However, the man didn’t react to his demand. Then, the perpetrator grabbed the younger man by the throat and started to choke him,” Trenčín Police Corps spokesperson Elena Antalová told the TASR newswire. Once attacked, the victim was intimidated into surrendering the euro. Afterwards, a witness intervened and pushed the attacker away from the victim.
“The investigator filed a motion with the Prosecutor’s Office to take the perpetrator into custody,” Antlaová said. “Even though the victim suffered only a small, single-euro damage, the indicted Žilina man could face between three to eight years in jail under the law [concerning robbery with physical assault].”
