Report shows Internet use in Slovakia average among EU

Slovakia placed thirteenth in the charts of the European Union countries, which evaluated the frequency of Internet usage among EU inhabitants last year, the SITA newswire wrote.

Slovakia placed thirteenth in the charts of the European Union countries, which evaluated the frequency of Internet usage among EU inhabitants last year, the SITA newswire wrote.

According to the report of the European Commission on the progress in information and communication technologies for 2007, 51 percent of Slovaks use the Internet regularly, which corresponds with average use in the EU. In comparison with the previous year, usage rose by 8 percentage points, since 43 percent of Slovaks used the Internet in 2007.

As the European Commission further informed, 36 percent of Slovaks were unable to work with Internet last year, which represents a drop of 6 percentage points year-on-year. A total of 34 percent of Slovaks have poor skills in working with the Internet, while 23 percent of Slovaks have intermediate skills and 7 percent Slovaks are advanced in working with a computer.

In the category of e-Government services, Slovakia lags behind the EU average. Seventeen percent of services could be accessed online, while the EU average was 51 percent. In the category of online services of e-Government for companies, 63 percent of services were accessible online, while the EU average was 72 percent. SITA
