After posting moderate annualised growth for three months in a row, Slovakia's retail sales fell in April according to data of released by the Slovak Statistics Office (ŠÚ) that reported that April’s retail sales dropped by 1.9 percent from April 2011 to €1.418 billion. In March, retail sales had grown by 0.1 percent, in February by 2 percent, and in January by 1.5 percent – which had been the first annual growth in retail sales after 18 months, the SITA newswire reported.
Over the course of the first four months of 2012, retail sales grew by 0.5 percent from the same period in 2011 to €5.581 billion. Compared with March, retail sales dropped 1.3 percent. Lower sales in April were reported in most categories.
The most significant drop was recorded in retail trade of IT technologies, by 5.9 percent, and in retail trade of other household equipment in specialised stores by 4.9 percent.
Sales increased only in retail trade of motor fuels by 4 percent, the SITA newswire wrote based on the ŠÚ report.
