Labour, Social Affairs and Family Minister Ján Richter left the Ružinov Hospital in Bratislava on Wednesday, June 26 - two weeks after being injured in a car accident – and was moved to the National Rehabilitation Centre in Kováčová.
"After two weeks, this pained, dejected man is smiling again," the TASR newswire quoted Richter as saying. He left the hospital on his own two feet, albeit using a walker. Richter had his spine pinned in a series of surgeries and is suffering from minor pain, but he should not have to undergo any further surgery. He claims that the pain is incomparably less severe than it was immediately after the accident.
My work has been coming to see me in hospital, said Richter, adding that he has also had time to think about certain matters properly, so he will return to work with more enthusiasm. He also praised the hospital's doctors and nurses. "I'll press upon my colleague [Finance Minister Peter] Kažimír [to allocate money for higher salaries for health-care staff], even though I realise that the economic results haven't completely developed as expected," he said.
Richter also announced that voting on an amendment to introduce changes in collective bargaining has been postponed to the ongoing session to September.
The minister has been recovering from spinal injuries that he suffered in a car accident on the R1 expressway on June 11. His driver was injured as well, but was released last week without the need for surgery.
