Roma leaders abandons politics

LEADERS of the Roma Civil Initiative (ROI) party have decided to abandon politics after recording a disastrous result of 0.29 per cent support in weekend elections.

"The elections were catastrophic for the Roma. Thanks to Roma themselves, the Slovak political scene will again be without Roma," said ROI chair Milan Mižič.

Slovakia's Roma, one of the country's largest ethnic groups, have never had strong political representation due to infighting among Roma political leaders and the lack of unity among Roma themselves.
