ECONOMY Minister Pavol Rusko, who is facing a possible recall from his post because of unexplained financial operations via bills of exchange exceeding Sk100 million, met with opposition leader and ex-PM Vladimír Mečiar yesterday, during the peak of the coalition crisis.
According to an unnamed source who spoke to the Pravda daily, Mečiar, the head of the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS), came to the ministry on August 17 just a day after the ruling Christian Democratic Movement called on PM Mikuláš Dzurinda to recall Rusko from the post.
Economy Ministry spokesperson Maroš Havran confirmed that Mečiar was at the ministry but said that the two politicians spoke about an unspecified constitutional amendment.
HZDS Deputy Chairman Ján Kovarčík however, said he did not know of any constitutional revision or the meeting between Mečiar and Rusko.
According to political analyst Darina Malová, it is highly improbable that in a time of such crisis, opposition and coalition politicians would meet to discuss a law.
