ECONOMY Minister Pavol Rusko confirmed that negotiations with South Korean firm Hankook concerning an investment in Slovakia are underway, the TASR news wire reported.
"If the negotiation of the contract ends successfully, it would be the second biggest investment in Slovakia after the Hyundai/KIA plant near Žilina," said Rusko.
Rusko added that potential cooperation with the tyre producers Matador Puchov (Trenčin region) and Continental (Germany), which is building a plant near Zvolen, was also possible.
Hankook Tires is due to discuss tax breaks with Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda.
The South Korean giant has plans to locate a plant, worth nearly Sk20 billion (around €500 million), in Levice (Nitra region). The investment would provide jobs to some 1,500 people.
