SLOVAKIA’S mechanical engineering sector is one of the most promising branches of industry in the country, Economy Minister Pavol Rusko told attendees of the 12th Annual International Engineering Fair held in Nitra on May 24.
"At the present time, 70 percent of the output of our engineering firms is being exported, 90 percent of which is heading for European Union markets," Rusko said, adding, “We are competitive in both price and quality."
The fastest-growing area within the engineering sector is the automotive industry. Since the automotive industry relies on other branches of engineering, it helps further the overall sector development, the minister said.
However, Rusko maintained that Slovakia is not interested in producing all the components needed to fuel the automotive industry. “It is neither efficient nor needed," he said.
According to the news wire TASR, Rusko said it was more efficient to focus on three or four branches of the industry.
