Economy Minister Pavol Rusko again surprised his ruling coalition colleagues when he announced that he wants the 49 percent share in the former state-owned petrol company Transpetrol back from Yukos, the controversial Russian crude oil company.
Rusko told the daily SME that Slovakia would want the shares back "if Yukos is no longer capable of further existence." Rusko is assuming the definite return of Yukos to Russian state control.
The Economy minister has not yet discussed the issue with the ruling coalition partners.
He hinted that afterwards Slovakia would try to find a new strategic investor for Transpetrol.
