The biggest low-cost airline in Europe, the Irish company Ryanair, will soon start regular flights to two more destinations from Bratislava, the SITA newswire wrote.
The airline's sales and marketing manager Anja Seugling said that service would start in April 2009 to Pisa, Italy and in June to Alicante, Spain. Ryanair plans twice weekly flights to both destinations. This will increase Ryanair's regular flights from the Slovak capital from the current eleven to thirteen destinations in seven countries.
The two new routes are evidence of the company's further expansion at the Bratislava airport, said Seugling. She said that the new routes from Bratislava represent an interesting offer for customers as they are not possible from the neighbouring Vienna airport.
“We believe that Alicante and Pisa are an excellent choice for the Bratislava-Vienna region.”
The director of the trade and marketing division of the Bratislava Airport, Radko Zábranský, said that Ryanair’s plans would partially compensate for an overall shortfall in passengers at the airport. Though the number of fliers on these routes, estimated at about 60,000 in the first year of operation, cannot fully compensate for the shortfall, they can help keep the drop in passengers at the lowest possible level.
