Low-cost airline Ryanair wants to carry 800,000 people from Bratislava's M.R. Štefánik Airport (BTS) this year, and will have 16 lines operational in the summer season, Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary said at a press conference on Wednesday, April 10.
O'Leary announced, as quoted by the TASR newswire, that a renewed line to Trapani in Sicily will be introduced, along with Alghero in Sardinia, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona, and city destinations such as Paris, Edinburgh and Bristol. Ryanair also announced plans to expand its activities in Bratislava, with new planes set to be delivered next year.
O'Leary said, as quoted by the Sme daily, that due to the number of planes operating, the number of passengers could increase to 2.5 million a year. The Ireland-based airline previously wanted to set up a base in Bratislava but failed to agree terms with the airport's representatives. This time the plan seems viable, Ivan Trhlík of BTS told Sme.
