Sacked construction minister Igor Štefanov (a nominee of the Slovak National Party/SNS), who last week was controversially named by his successor as an advisor at the ministry from which he had just been fired, will not return after all.
Interim Construction Minister Ján Mikolaj (also an SNS nominee) announced after a cabinet session on Wednesday, 17 March, that, despite announcing his intention to hire Štefanov as an advisor last week, the former minister will now definitely leave the Construction and Regional Development Ministry, the TASR newswire reported
Štefanov was sacked last Thursday over the inappropriate use of money under the contract linked to the notorious bulletin-board tender. A financial inspection is currently in progress at the ministry, which should provide grounds for Mikolaj to make further decisions. “We have to wait for the report, then we’ll see,” said Mikolaj, who didn't rule out the possibility that the matter could be passed on to the financial police.
