Slovak cyclist Peter Sagan achieved his goal for this year’s Tour de France race when he secured his second successive green jersey after the final race on July 21.
“My goal was to defend the green jersey, which I achieved,” Sagan said after the final race, as quoted by the SITA newswire. “I am glad this Tour is over, it was totally different from last year.”
Before the final race, the management of Sagan’s team Cannondale prepared for him a special green bicycle with a Slovak sign. Moreover, Sagan dyed his beard green, SITA wrote.
Sagan was considered one of the main favourites of the final sprint. He finished fourth, following German cyclist Marcel Kittel, André Greipel and Mark Cavendish.
“Tour de France has its history, it regularly finishes on Champs-Élysées,” Sagan said, as quoted by SITA. “It is a famous street which is closed only for us. It is the biggest victory for every sprinter to succeed in Paris.”
Tour de France was won by Briton Christopher Froom from Sky team.
