The salaries of Slovakia’s president, members of the Slovak Parliament and the Slovak Cabinet will probably not rise next year.
Their freezing at 2008 levels has been suggested in an amending proposal to the revision to the income tax law tailored by Smer deputy Jana Laššáková. Lawmakers debated the piece of legislation midweek and should vote on it on Thursday, October 22. The parliament approved a similar pay freeze via an amending proposal to the revision to the income tax law last year. It was expected that this would help the state save €398,000 this year. The new wage freeze will take effect when the approved revision is signed into law by the Slovak president.
Before the beginning of the 42nd plenary session, Slovak Christian and Democratic Union
(SDKÚ) MP Pavol Frešo proposed that parliament adopt a resolution stating that acting Environment Minister Dušan Čaplovič failed to honour a resolution from the autumn session which bound him to add information to the report on the sale of Slovakia's redundant carbon dioxide emission quotas. MPs, however, rejected Frešo draft resolution.
