South Korea's Samsung is considering building a €40 million plant for production of household appliances in Slovakia, news wire SITA reported.
The company has not yet decided whether it would construct the plant on a green field or use an already existing, but unused, facility. In its initial stage, the new plant should employ about 500 people.
Director General of the Slovak Agency for Trade and Investment Development (SARIO) Jan Bajánek said that production details have not been discussed yet, but refrigerators and microwave ovens are considered as possible products.
The final decision is expected after the visit of a Samsung delegation to Slovakia.
Samsung has already built one plant in Slovakia, Samsung Electronics Slovakia, that manufactures computer monitors and colour TV sets. Investments in this plant reached €13 million.
