Samsung Electronics expands Galanta investment to create 900 jobs

South Korean firm Samsung Electronics is to expand its TV screen-making unit in Galanta (Trnava region) and to build a second factory to produce digital technology, Economy Minister Pavol Rusko said.

Emerging from the talks with a senior representative of the South Korean firm, Rusko told reporters Samsung would invest some Sk1 billion (€24.9 million) and create 900 new jobs, the TASR news wire wrote.

Four other component suppliers are also expected to invest some Sk500-550 million (€12.34-13.57 million) in Galanta and employ around 1,000 workers in total.

According to the firm's representative, Samsung is also considering creating a logistics and distribution centre in Galanta for central and eastern Europe, expected to cost a further Sk350 million (€8.63 million) and create 200 jobs.
