JURAJ Miškov, the former economy minister and one of the most prominent members of opposition party Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) has been dismissed as its deputy leader, after the party’s national council voted on March 25 to replace him with Jozef Mihál, the former labour minister.
The council also re-elected Ľubomír Galko as the party’s other deputy chairman. SaS leader Richard Sulík proposed Miškov’s removal, the SITA newswire reported. Miškov, who is also the current head of the SaS parliamentary caucus, supported Jozef Kollár in his recent bid to replace Sulík as party leader. Sulík offered to nominate Kollár as a deputy chair, but he refused.
Sulík reiterated that he is still interested in cooperating with Kollár’s faction in the party. A handful of members have quit SaS since the congress reconfirmed Sulík in the chairman’s post.
“I have selected deputies with whom I expect close cooperation and whom I trust,” Sulík said, as quoted by SITA.
