ONE of the defectors of the Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party who have joined Daniel Lipšic’s NOVA movement as a liberal faction last year but recently fell out with the party leader, Juraj Droba, is reportedly interested in returning to SaS.
The SaS national council is set to discuss his possible return to the party on August 11, SaS leader Richard Sulík told the TASR newswire. Sulík declined to give his personal opinion on the issue and confirmed that the return of Droba might be subject to a vote.
Droba was one of the five MPs and high-ranking SaS officials, who left the party after Jozef Kollár failed to get elected the party chairman last year. They subsequently joined the NOVA movement of Daniel Lipšic, known for his conservative opinions, creating a liberal faction within the movement.
In a recent development, NOVA stripped the former SaS politicians of their posts in the party board.
Some liberals led by Kollár eventually decided to stay in NOVA but said they require Lipšic to give a public pledge that there will be enough scope for liberal ideas within the party, TASR wrote. Droba, however, was reported to be willing to go back to SaS.
