About eighty museums and galleries all over Slovakia have prepared not just their usual exhibitions, but also shows of traditional crafts, fairy tales or night tours for visitors within the country’s annual Night of Museums and Galleries which will be held on Saturday, May 16.
“All these venues will be open till late at night, complete with programmes, lectures, tours and performances,” the chairperson of the Union of Museums in Slovakia, Marta Janovíčková, told the ČTK newswire. Most of them will be open until midnight, but some even longer. For instance, the town castle in Kežmarok offers the chance for children to sleep overnight in the ancient castle rooms.
“In some museums and galleries, the entry will be free, in other places, it will be just symbolic,” Janovíčková added. Visitors will be able to see three dozen museums and galleries in Bratislava for just €1.50.
Some popular castles like Bojnice or Červený Kameň are participating in this evening event also as well towns like Trenčín, Prešov (cultural heritage Solivar)and Košice.
The head of the Presentation Department of the Slovak Technical Museum in Košice, Jana Žakarovská Ďuricová, told the SITA newswire that this museum has prepared a lengthy and attractive programme including visiting a mine, watching water turbines, steam machines, or entering a Faraday cage/shield.
Additionally,the Planetarium has prepared five programmes and the exposition of the Aviation Museum will be open until 23:00.
