Former Finance Minister Brigita Schmognerová, who was pushed out of her post by her own SDĽ party in January, will as of mid-March take the job of executive secretary of the UN’s European Economic Commission. Although ex-SDĽ party mate Peter Weiss says he would prefer Schmognerová stay in Slovakia and help him with the Slovak Democratic Alternative party the two founded last week, he called Schmognerová’s appointment “the highest international function” Slovakia is likely to get.
