A PAINTED glass vase that Slovak President Rudolf Schuster bought as a present for George W. Bush has been dubbed kitsch at home. The country's national crafts centre (Ú1UV) ridiculed the vase, which was produced by the Košice-based CDG firm. The company replied that Ú1UV had no authority to give expert views on CDG's artistic products.
The blue vase is half a meter high and was produced from Czech glass by two craftsmen who decorated it with strips of 24-carat gold. The design includes US and Slovak national flags on the neck of the vase.Schuster left on June 4 for a one-week trip to Canada and the US, where he will meet Bush and other top US officials in a short Oval Office reception.
