PRESIDENT Rudolf Schuster, himself a former top communist, has returned to parliament three laws approved in mid-July giving citizens access to communist era secret service files, preventing former ŠtB agents from working in the current Slovak secret service, and criminalising defence of communist-era crimes.
The laws, approved by parliament in its last session before dissolution ahead of September elections, were considered the political swan song of anti-communist politician Ján Langoš, active in parliament since 1991 but unlikely to be voted back in.
While the laws scraped through in third reading two weeks ago, they will need a far heftier majority to pass again following Schuster's move.
