President Rudolf Schuster has said he is in no hurry to sign PM Mikuláš Dzurinda’s request that Telecom and Transport Minister Jozef Macejko be fired for allegedly interfering in a tender for new engines for the state railways firm.

Schuster explained he didn’t want to be rushed into a bad decision, and said his busy schedule meant he might not find the time to consider the PM’s request this week.

Macejko has been blamed by Dzurinda for a recent scandal over the procurement tender for 35 engines, worth billions of crowns. Media have reported that a tender commission under Dzurinda’s brother Miroslav approved an offer which was Sk820 million more expensive than a competing bid.
