PRESIDENT Rudolf Schuster was angered to see his name linked with the newest proposal for raising pensions for ex-presidents to over Sk100,000 (€2,460) monthly, the daily SME wrote.
Schuster said it was the initiative of ex-president Michal Kováč, who feels that the money he receives, Sk24,000 (€590) plus a car with a driver, is not enough for a former head of state.
Schuster said he would settle for a normal pension, not a presidential one. He also stressed that he could live on the same amount of money as most of Slovakia's citizens.
Speaker of Parliament Pavol Hrušovský was surprised to hear Schuster's statements. He said that it was Schuster who originally came up with the idea of raising the ex-presidential pensions and that a written proposal for a monthly Sk75,000 (€1,845) came from the presidential office.
