CZECHS taking part in the Czech general election at their embassy in Bratislava gave the highest number of votes to Karel Schwarzenberg's TOP 09 party, with the winning Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD) ending up fifth, the TASR newswire reported.
According to the Czech Statistics Office (ČSÚ), 162 out of the total of 491 Czechs that decided to vote in Bratislava chose TOP 09 (33 percent), while the Civic Democrats (ODS) garnered 78 votes (15.88 percent) and ANO 2011, founded by Slovak-born billionaire Andrej Babiš, received 63 votes (12.83 percent). Next came the Christian Democrats (KDU-ČSL) with 42 votes (8.55 percent) and ČSSD and the Green Party with 40 votes or 8.14 percent each, TASR wrote.
The overall turnout of those eligible to vote at the Bratislava embassy reached 62.09 percent.
Meanwhile, the early general election held on Friday and Saturday (October 25-26) was won by the Social Democrats (ČSSD), who secured 20.45 percent of the vote. Nevertheless, ČSSD was only 1.8 percentage points ahead of Babiš's ANO 2011, with 18.65 percent. Next came the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSČM) at 14.91 percent, TOP 09 at 11.99 percent, ODS at 7.72 percent, and half-Japanese Senator and unsuccessful presidential candidate Tomio Okamura's Dawn of Direct Democracy (ÚPD) at 6.88. The seventh political party to get into the lower house of Parliament was the Christian Democratic Union (KDU-ČSL), with 6.78 percent.
