On November 29, the daily Sme reported on an article in Austrian financial daily Wirtschaftsblatt that states Slovakia and Austria are close to agreeing on some form of cooperation between Bratislava and Vienna-Schwechat airports.
Schwechat would most likely take control of Bratislava airport either through a 20-year agreement, or by establishing a joint venture. This would circumvent the Fico government’s freeze on privitisations in Slovakia, as Schwechat would never become a stockholder.
A spokesperson for the Slovak Transport Ministry confirmed the talks, but denied a deal was expected soon. He added that the ministry is still considering various options.
According to Sme, the agreement will be reached by the end of this year. SITA
