The opposition SDKÚ party has called on Prime Minister Robert Fico to disclose the contract between Slovakia’s Nuclear Decommissioning Company (JAVYS) and Czech energy firm ČEZ on the establishment of a joint venture to build a new nuclear power plant at Jaslovské Bohunice, the TASR newswire reported.
A SDKÚ representative expressed doubts about the contract that was passed by the Slovak Government on Wednesday, May 27. Its details weren't disclosed, however.
Another SDKÚ party member, Ivan Štefanec, claimed that wasting money and secrecy are becoming government policy. He called on the government to disclose the contract as well as the impact of the construction work on public finances. If the contract isn't disclosed, SDKU plans to carry out an MPs inquiry at JAVYS, as well as at the Economy Ministry which is the 100% shareholder in the company.
The state will own a majority stake in the joint venture via JAVYS. The government decided last December that CEZ would be the other strategic partner. The value of the investment is estimated at €4-6 billion. The definite price will be revealed only after a feasibility study has been completed next year.
PM Fico, speaking at a press conference following the government session on May 27 said that the material has not yet been published but will be after the signing of the agreement between JAVYS and ČEZ in Prague on May 29. JAVYS spokesman Dobroslav Dobák confirmed for TASR that the signing will take place at the European Nuclear Forum in Prague on Friday, May 29. TASR
