On March 17, the Sme daily wrote that the SDKÚ-DS party’s internal court was meeting to decide on the expulsion of fourteen members who had signed a petition by the "Time is Ripe for Change" initiative, which called for party chairman Mikuláš Dzurinda to be replaced.
But those facing expulsion, as well as the court’s chairman, said that the session had been convened at odds with the court’s bylaws, which stipulate that only the chairman has the right to convene sessions.
Court chairman Jozef Hrabina has said that he would like to put off the session for later.
Valentín Mikuš, who formerly headed the initiative, said he received an unsigned invitation from Hrabina that had been sent by an assistant to SDKÚ Secretary General Štefan Hudec. The invitation was followed by a signed letter from Hrabina that explained that he had not convened the meeting.
Hudec is one of party chairman Mikuláš Dzurinda’s closest aides.
Ironically, Hrabina said that the first point on the session’s agenda will be to dismiss Dzurinda, so that the party will have a leader who acts in line with its leadership. SITA
