THE LEADER of the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda, and former PM Vladimír Mečiar, leader of the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS), refused to comment on speculation that they are planning a partnership after the 2006 national elections.

However, Jozef Grapa from the Movement for Democracy, the party founded by President Ivan Gašparovič, said the SDKÚ and the HZDS were planning to form a ruling coalition for the next electoral term, according to the daily SME.

Grapa said that under the alleged agreement, Dzurinda would remain Prime Minister and Mečiar would take on the role of parliamentary speaker.
