FORMER Labour Minister Iveta Radičová of the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) is expected to replace former Transport Minister Pavol Prokopovič as the party's deputy chairperson.

Radičová's nomination for one of the SDKÚ's deputy chair posts was "clear" according to party leader Mikuláš Dzurinda. The SDKÚ is preparing for its national congress this weekend, where Radičová and the other party leaders should take their posts. Radičová, however, appears to represent the only personnel change in the pipeline, the Sme daily wrote.

The other nominated deputy chair members are current functionaries Ivan Mikloš, Eduard Kukan, Milan Hort, Pavol Kubovič and Juraj Liška. Dzurinda remains unchallenged as the SDKÚ leader.

At the party congress, Dzurinda is expected to outline a general course for the party for the near future. The document will describe the party's role as an opposition party and define its political allies and rivals.
