Karol Mitrík, a former MP and current mayor of Spišská Nová Ves in Košice region has been selected as the candidate of the largest coalition party, SDKÚ, for the post of director of the Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS), the party presidency decided unanimously on July 19, the TASR newswire reported.
Mitrík’s nomination was proposed by PM Iveta Radičová. She said that she took several criteria into account during the selection process, such as “character, probity, political experience, loyalty, dedication to ideas and values, and a straight backbone”.
Radičová said that she is concerned that the person should have a clean past and should not misuse acquired information after leaving the post.
