The leaders of Slovakia’s centre-right parties – the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), Freedom and Solidarity (SaS), the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) and Most-Híd – signed a new Coalition Agreement in Bratislava on Tuesday, July 6.
The chairmen of the four parties – Mikuláš Dzurinda (SDKÚ), Richard Sulík (SaS), Ján Figeľ (KDH) and Béla Bugár (Most-Híd) – signed the document, joined by Prime Minister-designate Iveta Radičová (SDKÚ).
The official signing of the agreement came 24 days after the June 12 general election in which the four parties won a combined majority in the Slovak Parliament.
However, it is still unclear when the new government will be named by Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič. The outgoing government, led by Robert Fico (Smer) said it would resign on Thursday, July 8, immediately after the first session of the newly-elected parliament takes place. But until President Gašparovič officially names a new government, the Fico government will remain in place. The president is bound by no legal deadline for naming a new government.
