The presidium of the Bratislava regional branch of the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) has backed former justice minister Lucia Žitňanská to become chair of the party. The decision followed a four-hour debate that took place on Monday, April 23, the TASR newswire reported.
Out of 16 delegates, 13 voted for Žitňanská and three gave their vote to the current chair of the Bratislava Self-Governing Region, Pavol Frešo. A third candidate, Viliam Novotný from eastern Slovakia, received no votes.
“I have big support, as expressed by the Bratislava regional presidium,” said Žitňanská, as quoted by TASR. “I have been the chair here for several years, and I viewed it as normal and natural to aspire to support in my own regional association.”
