The Democratic Left Party (SDĽ) of the ruling coalition has again threatened to quit the cabinet, this time because its government partners on May 21 refused to approve the passage of the European Labour Code.
The Labour Code, a Council of Europe document, reaches far into state social and economic policy. The SDĽ’s opponents said that approving it without first studying the effect on Slovak economic sovereignty would be foolish.
However, SDĽ head Pavol Koncoš has said he will propose to the party leadership that the SDĽ leave, and will not take no for an answer. “The strange thing is that we have lasted for this long,” he said.
