THE REPRESENTATIVE of the Party of the Democratic Left (SDĽ) serving on the Central Electoral Commission (ÚVK), Peter Weiss, refused to sign the official protocol on the results of the general election held on Saturday, June 12, the TASR newswire reported.
Weiss complained that Slovakia’s Statistics Office did not provide him with detailed election results from individual election commissions. He said that this prevented SDĽ from comparing the official results with parallel vote-counting the party had carried carried out itself.
“In the Election Act, the Statistics Office is cited as the only institution that is responsible for processing the results of elections. There’s not a single word in the act on any obligation of the Statistics Office towards any parallel results,” responded the chairwoman of the Statistics Office, Ľudmila Benkovičová, as quoted by TASR.
