A COURT ordered Robert Krajňák be awarded Sk2.5 million in compensation last week for having his rights violated by the Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS). Back in 1995, Krajňák took out a whole-page ad in the SME daily entitled "I was born in a totalitarian country and I don't want to die in one", a harsh criticism of the government under PM Vladimír Mečiar.
In it, Krajňák especially railed against the country’s instability, disrepute among the international community, and general state of crisis. The ad also included a petition for a referendum demanding Mečiar’s recall, the SME daily wrote.
Krajňák later sued the SIS after finding out it had started following him. The SIS will likely appeal the verdict.
