SLOVAKIA’S nominee for the post in the European Commission Maroš Šefčovič may not oversee transport as was expected. According to the public-service broadcaster Radio and Television of Slovakia (RTVS), he may become vice president of the EC and be responsible for energy policy.
This post was originally assigned to Slovenian candidate Alenka Bratušek who is expected to be excluded from the new EC team, RTVS informed on October 8.
Šefčovič recently successfully passed a hearing in front of the European Parliament committees, known as “grilling”, where he introduced his plans for the transport and space agenda. If he takes the post intended to go to Bratušek, the agenda of transport and space may go to Hungarian candidate Tibor Navracsics who was expected to oversee culture and education. This area may go to Slovenian MEP Tanja Fajon, as reported by RTVS.
Several sources allegedly confirmed the speculations over the shuffles with the EC posts to the broadcaster.
