The post should originally have gone to Slovenian nominee Alenka Bratušek, who failed to pass the hearing of the European Parliament. This meant that new EC President Jean-Claude Juncker had to reshuffle the posts in the EC, the Sme.sk website wrote, referring to RTVS reports.

Šefčovič was originally expected to take the agenda of transport and space.

According to RTVS, Juncker met with Slovenian nominee Violeta Bulc, who substituted Bratušek, on October 14. He did not say which agenda she may take, but it is possible she would take the transport portfolio.

Sources from the European Union told the TASR newswire that Šefčovič will be responsible not only for the energy union, but also for strategic coordination of transport, i.e. crucial projects in European transport.

According to RTVS, Juncker will confirm Šefčovič’s nomination on October 15 in the evening. After this happens, both Šefčovič and Bulc will have to go through the hearing in the EP again, Sme.sk wrote.
