The price of selected goods and services went up 0.3 percent in the first 10 days of October, the Slovak Statistics Office reported on October 20.

Prices were influenced mainly by a rise in the price of short-term goods for households (by 3.5 percent), and oils and fats (up 2.5 percent). Conversely, the most significant decreases were recorded in the price of meat (1.2 percent in crowns and 1.1 percent in euros), and of fuels (0.9 percent in crowns and 1 percent in euros).

The Statistics Office began evaluating price developments by 'decades' (ten-day periods) on August 1 and this method will be used until June 30, 2009. The goal of this system is to monitor the price of selected goods and services in crowns and euros during the dual display of prices. The Office has thus obtained statistical information on price movements in both currencies in order to perform the objective monitoring of price developments. TASR
