MIROSLAV Uchnár, the former director of the Border Police in Sobrance of the Office of Border and Immigration Police was detained on February 15 by officers of the inspectorate of the Interior Ministry. Charges of bribery and abuse of public office were filed against the former director, the spokesman of the Interior Ministry, Erik Tomáš, told the SITA newswire.
Before Uchnár was charged with the offence he was dismissed from his director’s post and suspended from the police force. In 2009 he allegedly accepted a bribe of €2,600 for agreeing to hire a 32-year woman to a position in the Border and Immigration Police.
Uchnár was suspended by Robert Zaplatílek, the newly appointed Chief of the Border and Immigration Police. He was put in charge of the department on February 10 after Tibor Mako resigned from the post over the scandal around RDX explosives that found their way to Ireland in a messed up sniffer dog training at the Poprad Airport. Zaplatílek arrived in his new position from the Inspectorate of the Interior Ministry.
