SLOVAKIA granted citizenship to Serbian drug dealer Dragoslav Kosmajac and another two Serbs illegally, private broadcaster TV Markíza reported on September 28.
Kosmajac used his Slovak passport to flee from Serbia earlier this year.
The Interior Ministry investigated the case.
“In all the files, based on which these people received certificates for receiving state citizenship and subsequently also Slovak documents, deficiencies were found,” Silvia Keratová from the ministry told TV Markíza. According to the broadcaster, this included falsified signatures and also problems with residency.
The Interior Ministry subsequently annulled the validity of the Slovak documents, Keratová added. Nobody has been punished for granting the three Serbs citizenship yet.
Kosmajac was described as the biggest drug trafficker by Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, who stated that Kosmajac has contacts with Columbian cartels and supplies the whole region with cocaine and heroin.
When the media reported on Kosmajac’s Slovak citizenship, Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák said that he feels “ashamed that there are people who were willing to sell the credit and reputation of the country for giving passports to such people”, as quoted by private news channel TA3. He also indicated that someone could have made money through this transaction.
