THREE separate instances of people entering prohibited areas along the Danube River were reported during the flooding that occurred in Bratislava in early June.
A group of three people entered into the Danube on June 7, close to one of the so-called botels docked along the river. Bratislava police spokesperson Petra Hrášková informed the SITA newswire that they refused to be rescued by firefighters, as well as the river police, the city police and the Airborne Squadron of the Interior Ministry. The three got out of the water downstream, about half an hour later near the Micherova zátoka cove in Bratislava’s second district.
Shortly before 13:00 on the same day, a man was found stranded on the roof of a Škoda Felicia in the Vlčie Hrdlo locality near the Slovnaft refinery. After attempting to drive through the rising water, the car started to sink.
Also that week, another man insisted on entering the embankment at the Passenger Port (to which entry was by that point forbidden), but left after a talk with police officers.
Hrášková concluded that this kind of irresponsible behaviour takes valuable rescue and police resources away from areas where they are needed the most.
