THE FOREIGN Ministry is considering merging diplomatic services within common embassies in third countries with other EU member states in order to curb costs.

The ministry proposed such a measure in its policy document for 2014, which the government acknowledged on October 30.

The document however does not mention closing down Slovakia’s embassies, according to the SITA newswire.

“The realisation of the proposed measures will not have a negative effect on foreign service, which will continue securing the priorities of the Slovak Republic in foreign and European policy and protecting the interests and rights of Slovak citizens effectively and professionally,” the documents reads, as quoted by SITA.
