Shooting in downtown Bratislava claims one life

A shooting on Obchodná street in downtown Bratislava on the afternoon of January 14 left one man dead and another two people injured.

A shooting on Obchodná street in downtown Bratislava on the afternoon of January 14 left one man dead and another two people injured.

According to preliminary information, the shooting started during the robbery of a jewellery shop. Paramedics attempted to revive the deceased man without success, Emergency Medical Care Operational Centre spokesman Boris Chmel confirmed for the TASR newswire.

The injured people, a man shot in the hip and female who suffered shin wound, were rushed to the hospital. Both are stabilised and their lives are not in danger, said Health Ministry spokeswoman Martina Lidinská.

The dead man, aged 66, was reportedly the jewellery shop owner and one of the injured, a woman aged 63, was his wife. The third injured person is said to be one of the robbers – having shot himself in the leg, according to TASR.

The shooting, in the narrow shopping street serviced exclusively by tram, disrupted public transport for an hour.
